ESG Solutions (IoW) Ltd – Health & Safety Policy Statement
Making sense of sustainability.
Context
ESG Solutions (IoW) Ltd is a sustainability consultancy based on the Isle of Wight, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Our work frequently involves client site visits, training delivery, advisory services, and remote/office‑based work. Although our organisation is small, we recognise that effective health and safety management is essential to the well-being of our team, partners, clients, and wider community.
This policy aligns with the requirements of ISO 45001:2018, the international standard for Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems, which emphasises leadership commitment, worker participation, risk‑based thinking, hazard identification, and continual improvement.
Scope
This policy applies to all work activities conducted by ESG Solutions (IoW) Ltd within the United Kingdom, including on‑site client work, remote work, digital service delivery, and engagement with supply chain partners.
Our Commitments
In line with ISO 45001 and consistent with our values of Clarity, Integrity, Impact, Collaboration, and Innovation, we commit to:
- Providing safe and healthy working conditions to prevent work‑related injuries, ill health, incidents, and near misses, in accordance with ISO 45001 requirements for proactive risk management.
- Identifying hazards and assessing OH&S risks across all our activities, including lone working, travel, client site visits, digital fatigue, and ergonomic risks, in line with ISO 45001’s risk‑based approach.
- Eliminating hazards where practicable and implementing effective controls to minimise risks, consistent with ISO 45001 Clause 8 (Operational Controls).
- Meeting all legal, regulatory, and compliance obligations relevant to occupational health and safety.
- Consulting and involving workers in health and safety decision‑making, improvement actions, and incident reporting, reflecting the worker participation requirement of ISO 45001 Clause 5.
- Ensuring competence by providing appropriate training, resources, and awareness to all persons working under our control (ISO 45001 Clause 7: Support).
- Integrating OH&S considerations into all business activities, client engagements, and sustainability recommendations.
- Promoting health, well‑being, and safe working practices, especially given the increased use of remote and hybrid working.
- Continually improving our OH&S performance, management system, and safety culture through monitoring, review, and lessons learned (ISO 45001 Clause 10: Improvement).
How We Deliver
Our health and safety approach is integrated with our wider sustainability mission and environmental commitments:
1. Education & Clarity
We help clients understand their OH&S responsibilities and management systems in clear, practical terms.
Internally, we provide concise guidance, training, and briefings to ensure safe work on‑site and remotely.

We undertake hazard identification and risk assessment for all work activities, including:
- Site visits and client premises
- Lone or remote working
- Use of digital tools and extended screen time
- Travel and transport
- Engagements involving contractors or partners
This aligns with ISO 45001’s requirements for proactive risk assessment and planning (Clause 6).
3. Safe Operations & Control Measures
We implement proportionate controls such as:
- Clear pre‑visit safety checks for client sites
- Safe travel planning and lone‑worker communication
- Ergonomic workstation standards
- Digital health and wellbeing considerations
- Safe data handling and cybersecurity (aligned with our responsible AI principles)
4. Communication & Collaboration
We maintain open channels for reporting hazards, near misses, or concerns, in line with worker participation requirements.
We collaborate with clients, partners, and the wider Isle of Wight community to support a strong, positive safety culture.
5. Integration with Sustainability Values
Health and safety is integral to our mission of making sustainability practical and meaningful.
We recognise that a safe organisation is a resilient one — and that people are at the heart of sustainability.
